How it works

This programme usually consists of block releases, which take place at our Practical Trade Suite in our Derby Academy. Typically, we will work on the basis of a week spent in the Academy followed by three weeks 'in the field', where under supervision, the apprentices can get stuck into the job and build their portfolio.

Our unique learning approach ensures that apprentices not only grasp the theory but also gain practical experience under supervision in a secure environment. They then apply this knowledge in the field, working alongside experienced operatives. We strive to collaborate with your planning and management teams to prepare the apprentice for real-world scenarios, enabling them to work in real homes with real Customers.

Each apprentice is provided with comprehensive support, including virtual and on-the-job 121s and observations with one of our Skills Coaches.

All of this will count towards their off-the-job learning. But this will be supplemented via activities such as:

  • 121s with their manager and/or mentor
  • Attending team meetings and keeping up to date with business communications
  • Any mandatory learning your business offers, such as health and safety, and data protection training.

Our Skills Coaches will provide guidance and advice on what can be included and how to record the learning to maximise opportunities and efficiencies.
