The UK’s leading social enterprise, Places for People has partnered with Rother DC Housing Company to deliver 130 new affordable homes at their new site ‘Tapestry’, in Battle.

Located close to Battle railway station – a new energy-efficient, high-quality 200-home development – the collection of new homes will be available with Shared Ownership and Affordable Rent. With over 80 new homes available through shared ownership, the properties will appeal to first-time buyers and families alike.

The 1-bedroom to 4-bedroom homes, will propose the latest energy-efficient technologies with air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points allowing customers to live more sustainably.

Tapestry is conveniently located within walking distance of the centre of the bustling market town of Battle. Named after the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the small town offers customers easy access to an array of independent restaurants, cafes and small boutiques. Larger amenities are all but seven miles away in the St Leonards on Sea and there’s plenty of leisure opportunities with lawn bowling, football and golf clubs all local.

Tapestry gives the best of rural and suburban living but, is not only central to the historical sites of the Battle of Hastings but is also close to the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The local train station provides frequent trains between Hastings and London and families will be drawn to the excellent range of schools.

John Kerr, Regional Managing Director for South East at Places for People said: “Housebuilding is not about just building more homes; it’s about building homes in tenures that meet local market needs. This is why we’re thrilled to enter this new partnership with Rother DC Housing Company and deliver all the 130 homes we acquire from RDCHC as affordable tenures. As the UK’s leading social enterprise, we are uniquely placed to see the consequences of not providing thriving healthy communities which are inaccessible to local infrastructure. We look forward to welcoming our new customers to this - not only significant town - but up-and-coming new thriving community in 2025.”

Richard Thomas, Chair of Rother DC Company, said: “We are delighted to forge this new partnership with Places for People whose outstanding reputation will ensure the local community benefit from high quality and genuinely affordable homes.”

Shared ownership offers an alternative route into homeownership allowing buyers to purchase an initial share of the property, between 10 to 75% of its value, with as little as a 5% deposit. They can buy further shares in the property at a later stage, right up to 100% and outright ownership.

Construction of the new homes will begin in early 2025 and will follow completion of the newly constructed Spine Road. The first properties are planned to be completed before Christmas 2025 with all the affordable rental homes to be allocated to customers by Rother District Council. The full scheme is due to be complete in Autumn 2027.
