New homes to support homeless in Bristol to live independently

New Homes To Support Homeless In Bristol

Places for People is proud to announce the opening of seven new one-bedroom modular homes at Stonebridge Park, Bristol. This initiative marks another crucial milestone in our ongoing mission to provide vulnerable Customers with the stability and support they need to transition into independent living.

For over 24 years, Places for People has been a pillar of support for homeless Customers at Stonebridge Park, offering 27 supported living spaces and a comprehensive range of on-site services designed to help residents rebuild their lives. Now, with the addition of these seven self-contained modular homes, we’re expanding that mission to provide independent living options in a supportive environment.

The new homes, overlooking the scenic Clay Bottom Valley and Nature Reserve, officially opened their doors on 12 February 2025, following a successful collaboration with delivery partner Agile Homes. This project complements our earlier efforts on Derby Street, where eight similar modular homes were developed and opened in January 2024, in partnership with the Hill Group and Bristol City Council.

A safe haven with tailored support

Our new homes are much more than just a roof over someone’s head—they represent a lifeline for Customers facing a variety of challenges that often lead to homelessness. From mental health struggles to financial instability, relationship breakdowns, or substance abuse, we recognise the complex, multifaceted nature of homelessness. That’s why our dedicated support workers are embedded into this programme, offering tailored advice and guidance to help residents regain stability and take meaningful steps towards permanent housing.

Rachel Crownshaw, Group Managing Director for Communities at Places for People, explains:

“These new homes will provide people with somewhere to call home, where they can live independently, with their own front door and everything they need inside. In addition to this, we have support workers available who can work with those living here and give them support, advice, and guidance as they get back on their feet and hopefully into more permanent accommodation.”

Tackling the housing crisis head-on

Homelessness is a crisis that affects people for many reasons, often through no fault of their own. From job losses to domestic issues, the challenges can be sudden and overwhelming. With one in five people fearing they or someone they know could face homelessness within a year - as highlighted in our #TimetoBuild campaign—the need for innovative solutions like this is more urgent than ever.

We believe projects like Stonebridge Park are essential to providing immediate relief, but we also understand the bigger picture. Our long-term commitment remains rooted in advocating for and creating more affordable homes nationwide to address the systemic causes of the housing crisis.

A legacy of Community impact

Places for People is a Community-focused organisation that manages and supports over 245,000 homes across the UK, including 74,000 homes for social rent. Our work is about more than housing; it’s about creating thriving communities, fostering resilience, and generating long-term social value. Last year alone, we created over £334 million in social value, touching the lives of over a million customers.

Together, we can build a more secure and compassionate future for all.
