Making a positive impact on our Communities in Bristol
20 April 2023
At Places for People, we believe that creating positive change starts with our Communities. That’s why we are proud to have partnered up with the Docklands Community Centre in St Paul’s, Bristol to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local residents.
The centre provides an affordable space for local services and offers opportunities for all generations to gather, socialise, learn new skills, and carry out fun activities.
Creating meaningful change in the Community
Thanks to our Community Investment Fund, we have been supporting an integrational project at the centre to improve opportunities and the quality of life for local people. The project aims to address issues of loneliness, anxiety, and food poverty in older people and young parents, while also providing a warm space to support people through the cost of living crisis. It also offers opportunities for younger members of the Community to upskill and enhance their careers.
As part of the centre’s offering, organisations have the opportunity to hire their space for events, meetings, and workshops with every penny that is generated going back into the local services, including their year-round youth services. Since January, various teams from Places for People have been using this space for meetings and workshops, including the Customer Engagement team who ran the Bristol Customer panel here in February. This panel allowed Customers to give their input on the services provided by Places for People.
Volunteering within our Communities
Recently, some of our colleagues from the Neighbourhoods team took time to volunteer at the centre and serve food at the Elder’s Food Club. Taking place every Friday, the club aims to offer a warm, welcoming space where elders in the Community can enjoy a hot meal and the company of others – all for free. The team received some great feedback from the centre and really valued the experience:
A huge well done and thank you to Amerdeep Panesar, Shel Ali, Jaycee Bowler, Gareth Cardy, and Neil Duffy for supporting our Communities. The commitment from the team truly reflects our Community first approach at Places for People.
Because Community matters
Our partnership with Docklands Community Centre is a great example of how working together can create a positive change in the Community. By supporting local organisations that address important issues and provide services to the Community, we can strive to create a more inclusive and supportive society, #BecauseCommunityMatters.
