Places for People’s mission is to create Communities everyone is proud to call home. We do this by developing happy, healthy and inclusive Communities for Customers across the UK. With an eye on the future, the Emerging Talent Programme provides you with opportunities to flourish, thrive and grow. Our Emerging Talent Programme is now hiring between the 28th of February and closes on the 10th of April.

Charlotte joined the Emerging Talent programme as an HR graduate and now works within the People services team. She tells us about her biggest achievements of the course so far and offers some advice to anyone who is considering applying for this year’s cohort.

Charlotte, how did you find your induction to the Emerging Talent Programme, and what were your highlights of the first week?

“One of the biggest highlights for me was meeting the rest of the cohort face to face.  We span most of the business, so it was interesting to hear about the experiences of others and how, even though we all come from a wide range of backgrounds, we are all working towards a common goal of furthering our careers in such a supportive and impactful business.”

What would you say are the most valuable lessons you have learned so far whilst on the Emerging Talent programme?

“It’s okay to not be an expert straight away – your managers will not be expecting you to know everything as soon as you walk in the door so do not be afraid to admit where there are gaps in your knowledge, or you need some extra help! People in this business are willing to help in any way they can so that you can further your career.”

During your first few months on the programme you’ve taken part in lots of different projects, which are you most proud of so far?

“The other HR Graduates and I were responsible for the buy/sell leave window in November 2023.  This is a benefit Places for People offers Colleagues where unused annual leave can be exchanged for a monetary sum.  We had a large number of applications which we processed in a small timeframe.  I am so glad we were given the opportunity to lead this project, becoming the experts on this topic within our team.  I am proud of how many Colleagues we were able to help through this scheme.”

And finally, what advice would you give to anyone who is considering applying for the Emerging Talent programme for 2024?

“Throw yourself into all of the opportunities available! Don’t be scared, everyone is nervous about taking the next step in their career but if you are enthusiastic and passionate, you will go far!  Ask as many questions as you can and show your interest as others are always willing to help.”
