Honouring Unsung Heroes: Celebrating the Winners of the 2023 British Citizen Awards
31 January 2023
With great pride and honour, Places for People was thrilled to have once again sponsored this year’s British Citizen Awards (BCA).
As we celebrate eight years of these prestigious awards, we are reminded that it is the everyday actions of selfless people that truly make a positive impact on others.
The celebrations took place last Thursday at the impressive Palace of Westminster, where 29 truly remarkable individuals across the United Kingdom were recognised for their unwavering dedication to making a difference in their Communities. Our very own Katie Procter, Head of Supported Housing, had the honour of presenting six of the medallists with their awards.
Every day, our lives are shaped by individuals doing great things – often behind the scenes, or away from the glare of publicity. People are key to making our Communities special places to live, so it is a heart-warming experience being able to single some of them out for recognition with a British Citizen Award (BCA).
Making a positive impact on the Community
Those who were nominated for an award are truly ‘unsung heroes’. Many have quietly helped in areas where they have benefited in the past and work tirelessly to make a positive impact in their Community without thinking of themselves.
From raising funds for vital causes to volunteering their time and talents to support those in need, these individuals are dedicated to making a difference. Whether it be through creating new charities that support mental health, empowering refugees and migrant women through creative outlets, providing necessary healthcare, or positively impacting the lives of young people through sports and social clubs, these medallists have shown a real selfless effort to make our world a better, safer, healthier and happier place.
Their generosity and selflessness are truly inspiring, and we believe that each and every one of them is so deserving of these prestigious awards.
Because Community matters to everyone
Collectively, the inspiring individuals from January’s cohort have been responsible for over £7.25m in fundraising, have impacted over 272,000 individuals, and have been committed to their chosen causes for over 395 years.
Speaking to Katie about the event, she said:
As the UK’s leading Social Enterprise, we at Places for People pride ourselves on creating happy, healthy, and inclusive Communities. We are proud to celebrate the People who continue to make a difference in their Communities. They should be proud of all that they have accomplished.
