Craigmillar lights up the Christmas period

Craigmillar officially kick-started the festive period with a spectacular Christmas event filled with cheer and a sense of Community.

The Community of Craigmillar was abuzz with festivities last night as Scottish National Party MP, Tommy Sheppard, made a welcomed appearance to switch on the Christmas lights. However, the magic didn’t peak with the big switch on. The children of Craigmillar also enjoyed the heart-warming singing of Haystack Nursery and a special visit from Santa, Mrs Claus, and their world-famous sleigh!

This was a real moment for the Community - seeing Places for People Scotland collaborate with contractors and Community Partners to make the event a reality, with local supermarkets and The Mission Café kindly donating a selection of delicious food and boxes.

But the Community spirit didn’t end there, Places for People Scotland colleagues have also been busy fundraising to ensure local children receive a gift over the Christmas period – bringing a well-needed sense of camaraderie to the neighbourhood.

Ciara Toland, the Head of Neighbourhoods for Places for People Scotland, said: “Christmas is a time for the whole Community to come together and share some festive cheer after an undoubtedly challenging year. As a local housing provider, we are determined to ensure that our Customers have not only a good home, but a strong Community that supports them to thrive.

We believe that coming together to celebrate and have fun is a vital element of Community cohesion and inclusion.”

She added, “I want to thank local leaders and our generous partners from across Craigmillar for supporting this fantastic event, which has brought a little bit of the magic of Christmas to many peoples' lives.”
